The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is stepping up support for Grants.gov to see it through the huge surge in federal grant applications as a result of the Recovery Act grant opportunities, according to a memo released today. They are asking the federal grant-making agencies to chip in an additional $6 million to buttress the technology and customer support infrastructure of Grants.gov. Jason Miller at Federal News Radio has more detail in his article.
We're glad to see OMB actively supporting Grants.gov. Despite all their recent difficulties, the concept of a centralized federal grant portal is sound. The Grants.gov "find" capability performs pretty well, and customers appreciate the trend of agencies using a consistent set of grant application formats.
What they really need is a more sophisticated software approach, like the web-based front-end developed by Cayuse. Cayuse technology could be applied to help in this situation.
